A haunting week as we head towards Halloween, Samhain, Day of the Dead. With the sun, mental Mercury and heart-centered Venus now in deep Scorpio, our heart and minds are brought to the far side of the veil. It’s a week when we walk with our memories, particularly as Mercury slows down to turn retrograde on Thursday.
Most every culture has a version of this holiday in Scorpio season, a time to remember those who’ve gone before and now feel so close. The tradition is to make friends with death before winter sets in because one never knows who’s going to make it through. Scorpio gets morbid like that. But that veil we want to pierce can also be the veil over truth, mysteries, self-knowledge, or political obfuscation. Scorpio wants to know all.
And that goes for our inner work, it’s a time to spelunk our souls. Scorpio calls us to dive deep, look under the rocks and investigate the foundations of our thoughts and psyche. In a more literal sense, it’s an important time to investigate what’s working and not working in the house we live in, look at the foundations and check wires and the pipes. And do the same for the systems we work with and our houses of government.
Friday morning, we may feel a maudlin sweetness, memories of times past or a desire for a deeper present as Venus sextiles intense Pluto and the Moon enters sociable Libra. Over the weekend let’s balance time alone with time together, the Scorpio lineup encourages solitude while the Libra Moon needs connection. We can’t always do what we want to do with a sometimes-frustrating Mars- Saturn square over the weekend, but we can enjoy companionship while we tend to the chores.
A new Moon in Scorpio on Sunday night gives us a dark and moody night, but can help us dive into those mysteries and honor those who’ve passed.
On Monday morning we may feel ready to make some surgical decisions, where we have felt fed up, we want to make change happen as the Sun opposes Uranus. On Wednesday our emotions are played like a symphony as the Scorpio Moon conjuncts Venus and Mercury, let it be a beautiful tune. We may have less patience, but need more, towards the end of week as Mercury prepares to turn retrograde on Halloween under the restless Sagittarius moon. Though it’s a good night to dance with the wild monsters.
Throughout the week puts Mercury retrograde survive and thrive skills into effect. Confirm all appointments, double check the schedule in the directions. Keep a book or work on hand at all times to make constructive use of delays. If small things go wrong, instead of stomping one’s feet and clashing around, which will only cause a cascade of problems, slow down, take a deep breath, get centered, and proceed with grace. If a conflict threatens, it furthers to step out of the fire for a minute, take another deep breath, and look for the misunderstanding that triggered the friction. Mercury retrograde can intensify pragmatic snafus but it also gives us a chance to remember, rethink, and complete. Look for the advantages. No first we want
