Our brains can feel a muddy as a spring landslide this month, but we can still be productive. Two opposing astrological patterns affect us: Mercury retrograde in Pisces slows us down as Mars in earthy Taurus encourages us to make progress.
On the flooded side, Mercury, the planet that symbolizes how we think, communicate, and move through the world, now retrogrades (appears to back up against the zodiac) until March 28 in intuitive Pisces. This one will feel like a super-retrograde as Mercury conjunct Neptune, the brain fog-producing planet of imagination, spirit, and escapism, first on February 19, now backs up and conjuncts Neptune again on March 24, then turns direct and conjunct it for the third time on April 2, a flood that gets us coming and going. Through this long unusually foggy and muddy Mercury retrograde we can feel wildly creative but easily overwhelmed, like the world is just too darn complicated, and ascertaining the factual truth can feel as slippery as melting snow over mud.
Quite literally, we need to keep our eye out for water damage and floods in a very concrete way through early April. We may also feel flooded on the inside, feel our emotions catch up with us or just not as energized and focused as we might want to be. What will succeed are anything truly Neptunian. Shamanic journey work, spirituality, any healthy use of our imagination. Alcohol and binge movie watching can beckon. Support anyone with substance abuse problems to find healthy ways to step out of reality and rest for a minute.
But we have some astrological help in this fog. Mars and Uranus have entered earthy, practical Taurus, and encourage us to work steadily towards productive change. This week we can tap into a steady tortoise-like endurance to deal with what needs to be done as Mars trines pragmatic Saturn.
Mars in Taurus can also stir up possessiveness and a strong sense of territory. Watch for that theme in the headlines. This possessiveness can be tricky as Mercury retrograde obfuscates the truth. Don’t toy with anyone’s affections, and before going off in a jealous rage, or any kind of rage actually, check the facts. Twice.
Just in time for International Women’s Day we have an intermittent energy boost on Friday and Saturday from a fierce, impatience-producing, Aries moon. The Moon enters earthy Taurus on Sunday morning and encourages us to slow down, get grounded, but also let go of some old anger. Though some people may feel apparently-needlessly worried, and need a little extra reassurance. Midweek a talkative Gemini Moon speeds up the conversation but can bring up free-floating anxiety or encourage us to multitask to the point of inefficiency. Track what needs to be tracked carefully. Tap into the ambient competence as Mars trines Saturn on Thursday.
Throughout the week, throughout this month, practice good Mercury retrograde skills; take a book to read during delays, utilize unexpected free time, track phone and keys carefully, drive carefully, confirm plans, don’t believe everything you hear, and check for misunderstandings before spouting off. Slow down and engage the imagination consciously.
Friday, March 8: We may want to be a super-person as the Moon in Aries eggs us on to be great but may feel like a tired Clark Kent instead. Let’s not berate ourselves on the difference between our ambitions and where we are right now, but instead, take care ourselves and find as much place for enthusiasm and impatience as possible. Take advantage of a wave of interpersonal warm-heartedness this morning as the Moon sextiles Venus, and deal with flashes of irritation at world events, then track carefully what needs to be accomplished. Counter-intuitively, spontaneous moment off schedule can help us stay more present in the long run: listen to the inner wanderer.
Moon sextile Venus 5:28 AM.
Saturday, March 9: We have more energy and follow-through today than is usual this month, but still may not be able to look too far ahead. Jump on those projects as the Sun sextiles practical Saturn, just measure twice, keep an eye on the plans, and check for mistakes along the way. Use a mid-morning discouragement or disagreement as the Moon squares Pluto motivate some improvement, rather than add to isolation. Afternoon fees our interactions, we can share our eccentricities easily, but it may be hard to bring any project to completion.

Sunday, March 10: After dealing with some potentially unsettling ways or dreams overnight as the Moon conjunct Uranus, we need comfort to refill our wells under this Taurus moon. A place of safety, of rest, lets our mind wander and process as Mars sextiles Neptune. We may be low on ambition, ready to forgive small slights, but will be ticked off by friends or public figures that have deliberately muddied the waters with lies or denial while the truth feels so hard to attain. Homey comfort means the world. We appreciate reassurance that people around us have our back.
Moon enters Taurus 12:09 AM, Moon conjuncts Uranus 12:30 AM, Mars sextile Neptune 10:19 AM, Moon square Venus 10:44 PM.
Monday, March 11: Slow and steady does it. People may be relatively humorless, but can be jollied along with comfort and reassurance. Security is important; we don’t take it kindly if something feels like it’s about to slip, whether that’s our footing on an icy sidewalk, a relationship, or finances. Take conscious action this morning, then settle in a steady rhythm. Do rather than talk about it.
Moon sextile Neptune 8:17 AM, Moon conjunct Mars 9:26 AM, Moon trine Saturn 12:34 PM, Moon sextile Sun 5:13 PM, Moon trine Pluto 8:13 PM.
Tuesday, March 12: C: Conversation picks up, so does nervousness and anxiety as the Moon enters verbal Gemini and the Sun approaches a sextile to Pluto. Stay in the present and manage the nerves, don’t let them run the show, but do keep that dialogue going. Sound bites in the news can stretch the truth to sound exciting, so take them with a grain of salt.
Moon sextile Mercury 3:30 AM, Moon enters Gemini 9:47 AM.
Wednesday, March 13: Emotions fluctuate today as the Sun sextiles Pluto and squares Jupiter. Moods and weather change quickly, though with definite momentum underneath. Let’s be really clean with how we use our resources and our willpower as the Sun sextiles Pluto. Look for some interesting revelations in the public conversation. Tonight, notice what is ready to be released. It is important to look at how we define freedom as the Sun squares Jupiter.
Sun sextile Pluto 8:29 AM, Moon trine Venus 11:57 AM, Moon square Neptune 3:43 PM, Sun square Jupiter 7:29 PM.
Thursday, March 14: This could be a busy morning. If several pots cook on the fire, focus on a few things and come to an understanding about them. Make plans, at least temporary ones, as Mars trines Saturn. Pay attention to important communication about projects started in the past. The Moon enters sensitive Cancer midafternoon and our emotions get a bit more volatile and guarded; steadiness is greatly appreciated.
Moon opposite Jupiter 3:50 AM, Moon square Saturn 4:02 AM, Sun square Moon 4:26 AM, Moon square Mercury 6:30 AM, Moon enters Cancer 3:49 PM, Moon sextile Uranus 4:31 PM, Sun conjunct Mercury 7:47 PM.
