Life can be easy where we say little, do less, relax and enjoy the summer while Mercury is retrograde from July 7-31. But most of us won’t have time for that. This week the astrological winds bring in fundamental shifts along with the usual Mercury retrograde follies- mislaid tools, odd accidents, visits from old worries and wonderful friends, strange and sometimes useful delays, all sprinkled with a few sudden opportunities.
It’s a great week to rest, repair, renew, and reconnect with our heart-centered clan. Take a test on materiel we’ve studied over a long time. But Mercury, as it retrogrades back into Cancer and approaches an opposition with Pluto, brings our minds to some familiar old personal issues and political problems. Our keys and phone can easily go on a walkabout. Important papers play hide and seek. Mechanical gremlins nip at our tires. Public figures light up the twitter-verse with outrageously regrettable things. As for conversation over the dinner table, we can wax lyrical when we’re reminiscing or telling tall tales, but our minds can feel like a spongy sieve when we are trying to nail down details or make future plans. It’s not that we can’t do what needs to be done, but it will take extra effort to stay focused, and keep our path cleared of debris.
As for this weekend, play it gently; don’t read too much about the future into the present mood. Find safe and productive ways to be sensitive. The general mood will be soft and permeable with potential emotional and physical floods while the sun, moon, Mercury, and Venus all traverse responsive water signs. Mercury reenters back into deep-feeling Cancer, the Moon enters sensitive Pisces and so we may feel less extroverted, need to tend the home and cultivate safety. The emotional arbiter Venus opposes intense Pluto and brings up our sweetness and vulnerability, and fear of loss; use that sensitivity to create, use tenderness to build relationships or become newly aware of some interior condition.
There may be an emotional need to catch up with oneself. We may need to process recent loss or the fear of losing something important to us. Just feel the feels without attaching too much to any one story. Be careful of making any promises under this emotional high tide.
Next week begins with a fresh energetic flash as both Sun and Moon switch to fire signs; the sun enters Leo, the sign of the cat, and our energy becomes cat-like; fierce and ready to pounce one minute, lazing in the sun the next, occasionally affectionate and entertaining, but certainly not willing to come at anyone’s beck and call. On Tuesday the feisty Aries Moon forms an energizing and competitive grand trine in fire signs with Mars and Jupiter. Dogs fight over a bone and a competitive vibe lights up sports and encourages us to become a hero and stand up for what’s right. But stay present to avoid inattentive accidents.
Midweek brings a steadier endurance as Mercury conjuncts Venus and brings us more to our heart. Mercury turns direct by the end of next week, but for now let’s keep it easy, smooth, and aware.
Friday, July 19: Feelings grow more tender and defensive, water and emotions overflow as Mercury retrogrades back into Cancer. Water, floods, flooding emotions can be a problem. Deal with people early in the day while the Moon is in Aquarius; people may be somewhat out of sync or distracted, but we don’t need to take it personally. As the Moon enters Pisces around 3 PM we’d love to feel safe, a moment of comfort and magic, almost maudlin and in need of good memories. Pleasant charm flows where we feel safe, tears pour quickly where we don’t.
Mercury retrogrades back into Cancer 1:06 AM, Moon enters Pisces 3:18 PM.
Saturday, July 20: Drift; keep it low-key, safe, cuddly, comfortable, and be ready to help. People are feeling vulnerable, some with good cause, and may need help. Watch for an abundance of water from the skies or from spilling liquids, or a flood of free-floating memories and emotions. Drain them away and minimize damage. Make a more playful relationship to the water element.
Moon sextile Uranus 4:16 AM, Moon square Jupiter 10:05 PM.
Sunday, July 21: There is an emotional cost to loving and caring, and it can be the cost of the fear of losing or missing what’s not there, a longing for something that feels like a part of us. This morning as Venus opposes Pluto, we may be aware of that cost. To become controlling in response will not further. It helps to remember how whole we are without, but can also bring our minds to know that caring is worth this cost, remember what we miss and what that gave us. Remember what we hope to build into our life in the future. One can also feel how important our compassion is for the fabric of humankind, be painfully aware of what we could lose through climate change or through hardening the heart against those in need. The best cure for loneliness is to be there for someone or some cause in their ache.
Moon sextile Saturn 12:27 AM, Venus opposed Pluto 2:13 AM, Moon conjunct Neptune or 40 5 AM, Sun conjunct Venus 6:33 AM, Moon sextile Pluto 11:17 AM, Moon trine Venus 12:19 PM, Moon trine Mercury 11:58 PM.
Monday, July 22: The Moon in Aries gives us fits and bursts of energy, flares when were when were enthusiastic or when our temper starts to ratchet up, but great laziness when confronted with something we don’t want to do. This afternoon we may need to repair things, repair relationships, or leave something in a better shape than we found it as the Moon conjuncts Chiron. Look for something worth celebrating as the Sun enters Leo tonight.
Moon trine Venus 2:34 AM, Moon enters Aries 4:02 AM, Sun enters Leo 8:50 PM.
Tuesday, July 23: An outspoken and direct Aries Moon can light a fire under us and get us going, but in what direction? Things are shifting. We resist: that Aries Moon encourages us to shoot sparks or shut down as it squares Saturn and Pluto and forms a grand fire trine with Mars and Jupiter. But we can channel it for progress, like harnessing a combustion engine, with a clear intention. We’d rather not work too hard in this process, but can use this burst of energy to stand up for a cause, clear the way for future project, or start a short-term adventure. Let’s just watch where the sparks land.
Moon trine Mars 7:33 AM, trine Jupiter 10:13 AM, squares Saturn 12:30 PM, Moon square Pluto 11:20 PM.
Wednesday, July 24: Women speak up, our Muse needs to be heard and our hearts want to be included as the Moon enters Venus-ruled Taurus while Mercury conjuncts Venus. Unless we take turns, we can lock horns as the Sun and Moon square in fixed signs. Though nothing warms the heart like knowing someone is listening. Logic isn’t the point. Speak from the heart, listen to the heart, paint from the heart.
Moon square Venus 7:12 AM, Moon square Mercury 8:47 AM, Moon enters Taurus 3:42 PM, Mercury conjunct Venus 6:26 PM, Moon square Venus 7:17.
Thursday, July 25: Assess the situation this morning; something we count upon could change and need a work around as the Taurus Moon conjuncts Uranus, but it could be for the better. Notice a territoriality, we can get attached to our stuff or our space and have trouble sharing. The strong competitive nature makes it so no one wants to lose, so don’t set up a competition unless ready to go for it; instead negotiate for a win-win position.
Moon conjunct Uranus 4:16 AM, Mars trine Jupiter 6:22 AM, Moon square Mars 9:11 PM, Moon trine Saturn 10:29 PM
