If March usually rolls in like a lion, this one limps in grumpily. The first wisps of excitement about the Spring hopeful renewal mingle with recalcitrant depression and Piscean overwhelm from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that pile up towards the end of the Mercury retrograde cycle. The astrological mood can turn on a dime this week and we have to find a healthy middle ground.
Mercury retrogrades until March 9, leaving our mental steering, transportation and communication foggy. This Mercury, together with an approaching sun-Neptune conjunction, can conjure up clouds of misinformation, our emotional reaction can color our thinking.
Right now, where we feel safe, a Mercury retrograde sensitive introspection can help us understand nuance and inspire creative vision. But where we feel unsafe, we can project our worst fears on the world around us and not know where the distortion happens. This tricky Mercury can whisper stories of pandemics and stock crashes, loss of work, or it can bring us beautiful inspiration. Although our minds may drift from the facts, our emotional engines are cranked full on with Venus in feisty Aries and Mars in determined Capricorn. Our moods mood, the politics, and pandemic headlines can feel like a strong and willful horse directed by a daydreaming or panicking rider. Just know that we’re not thinking clearly, honor the feelings, but please get more solid facts.
Neptune is now more than half way through the sign of Pisces (2011-2025). Neptune in Pisces can be inspirational but can also leave us feeling vulnerable and open. The last Neptune in Pisces transit was from 1847 to 1862 and inspired the spiritualist movement, but began with a typhoid epidemic. Since Neptune entered Pisces in 2011, we’ve experienced ferment around the permeability of our national borders and the flux and flow of humankind. The Sun it is also in an unusually long quiet phase, solar minimums are correlated with epidemics. So, our collective body may feel unusually permeable the disease, and our psyches permeable to the collective hopes and fears. Let’s be careful where we put our mind, what reality we vote for with our imagination.
Back to this week, it’s been a long one. The weekend begins under an earthy Taurus Moon, and we could all use a hug and some comfort food. The Taurus Moon helps us tend to the basics and finish our week with practicality, but we may be reminded of what we are afraid of losing, what we are missing as Venus squares Pluto on Friday and rocks the emotional boat, but also reminds us what’s important and what’s not.
On Sunday the Moon enters Gemini and we may need to talk; it can leave us a little scattered. This Mercury retrograde has made it challenging to keep track of glasses, car keys, and other pivotal small items unless we track them carefully.
We need more comfort and reassurance early next week as Venus squares Saturn and the Moon enters Cancer. Our insecurities can act up but it may come off as crabbiness. Our hearts can feel heavy with the ordinary work of being alive; the point isn’t to stay depressed, but to process feelings in a healthy and stable way, and support one another with simple pragmatic grounding action. Just be helpful.
On Wednesday Mercury retrogrades back into the air sign Aquarius, which can help us think a bit more clearly and objectively. Venus enters cuddly and pragmatic Taurus and helps us get more grounded, visions of sprouts in our garden and blossom on the tree, those first hints of spring romance, can help ease the worries remind us what’s beautiful about being alive.

Prioritize; concentrate on one thing at a time. We need to talk things out, but because they are processing out loud, people can speak a partial truth, something they don’t really mean, and caused a disruption. Don’t jump to conclusions.
