On this Valentine’s Day may our hearts be warm, may we share love with our community and deepen all soul-supportive relationships. Valentine’s Day is an idealistic Aquarius holiday, Aquarius brings our mind to community, politics and our physical and metaphysical interconnectedness.
Aquarius also loves philosophical ideals, over time the ideal of romantic perfection on Valentine’s Day has been so inflated that it can hurt when we compare our lives to that ideal, rather than celebrate connection and caring where and how we find it. The tricky astrology of this week can exacerbate this problem, so let’s be careful with one another’s hearts, and do something wonderful for the world instead of worry about whether or not we got a box of chocolates.
Today’s intense Moon in Scorpio hints of strong passions, possessiveness, and a paradoxical desire to be alone. Emotional Venus, now in feisty Aries, acts like a Bunsen burner to heat our feelings, while action-oriented Mars in freedom-loving Sagittarius offers cheerfulness yet with a fear of feeling trapped, which can create all sorts of interesting dynamics to relationships. The Sun in Aquarius encourages us to either love everyone, or love no one, it is also bringing this abstracted political season; Presidents’ Day is under Aquarius for good reason.
Mercury in sensitive Pisces turns retrograde on Sunday which can encourages poetic moments but can also leave us fuzzyheaded; miscommunication or mixed signals can stimulate our insecurities unless we keep our thoughts under control and stay centered. While our minds wander and drift, our emotional engines are cranked full on, and so the mood may feel like a strong and willful horse directed by a daydreaming rider. We can do this; it will just take a firm hand on the rain.
So, let’s love up our community with the random act of kindness or compassion, but let’s not do anything that would provoke jealousy or territorial possessiveness, or play with those heartstrings. For Valentine’s Day, instead of the usual dinner out, consider an interesting adventure, an unusual event that offers togetherness and freedom at the same time.
The mood grows more spacious as the Moon joins Mars in restless Sagittarius on Saturday night, we may feel the need to unwind and get a little crazy. Seriousness kicks back in as Mars enters determined Capricorn and Mercury retrogrades on Sunday, our frank opinions can trigger other people’s projections and creating misunderstandings as people entrench in their opinions. Ask people to clarify their point rather than jump to conclusions.
Our mercurial efforts, communication, transportation, and perception, get complicated for the next three weeks with Mercury retrograde and will need extra attention. But this time is wonderful for contemplative or imaginative work and anything that brings our minds to the past, like reviewing, remembering, completing, and reconnecting. Our minds may be fuzzy so let’s keep the heart open and speak from there.
Now when communication gets difficult, but those strong and willful emotional horses pull at the bit, politics heats up. Look for competent but potentially Machiavellian action on Tuesday as the Moon joins Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, and the asteroid Athena, all in ambitious, competent, occasionally controlling Capricorn. The Sun also enters Pisces on Tuesday night, this last month before spring usually contemplative month but it may be hard to slow down and deepen this year with Venus and Mars in such determined signs. On Thursday, expansive Jupiter sextiles idealistic Neptune and asks us to reconnect with our ideals and let them direct our willfulness.
Friday, February 14: The planets are in fierce places but supportively aspect one another, and leave us resonating with strong emotions and mixed signals. Don’t crowd anyone, but know that a heartfelt respectful expression, whether it’s an opinion, or a Valentine, will be appreciated as the Moon trines Mercury and Neptune, and sextiles Jupiter. Watch a slightly defensive attitude, as if we don’t want to be talked into anything, but we can be open to a picture painted, to a line of poetry. Share a feeling, don’t force an opinion.
Moon trine Mercury 2:42 PM, Moon sextile Jupiter 9:51 PM, Moon trine Neptune 11:24 PM.
Saturday, February 15: We’re running on our own schedules, timing won’t go as expected. We may need to listen to some inner muse and drag our feet when obligations try to pull us in another direction midday. Late afternoon cooperation flows more comfortably as the Moon sextile Saturn. Tonight, the Moon enters outspoken Sagittarius and lightens the mood; dance, debate, or walk in the Moonlight.
Moon sextile Pluto 10:20 AM, Moon square the Sun 3:17 PM, Moon sextile Saturn 3:19 PM, Moon enters Sagittarius 9:06 PM.
Sunday, February 16: Let’s keep our sense of humor as best we can and laugh at the slapstick as the stars tell us to hurry up and stop; Mars enters competent Capricorn, pushing us forward, while Mercury turns retrograde and slows us down. Let life be a meditation in being in the present moment, not the minute behind or the minute ahead, but just right here, as we speak and as we move.
Moon trine Chiron 2:49 AM, Mars enters Capricorn 4:32 AM, Moon trine’s Venus 4:05 PM, Mercury turns retrograde at 5:53 PM, the Moon squares Mercury 8:09 PM.
Monday, February 17: We see what needs to be changed, but have to move forward with careful intent as Mars trines Uranus for the next few days. Rebelliousness seems like a very reasonable response to recent memory with Venus in Aries and Mars in Capricorn, just know that we cannot see very far ahead. Willpower is cranked up and misunderstandings come easily. Find safe places to express, and then take actions based on what will work for the long haul.
Moon square Neptune 4:48 AM.
Tuesday, February 18: This is a strategic and political time, good for organizing, for seeing the filaments of our actions in the big picture as the Moon enters Capricorn and conjuncts Mars then trines Uranus, but we may feel a potentially unhealthy desire to manipulate our surroundings in order to affect the world, or have to deal with someone in that frame of mind. Stay centered. The Sun enters Pisces tonight and softens the mood.
Moon sextile Sun 2:03 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 3:36 AM, Moon conjuncts Mars 6:16 AM, Moon trine Uranus 9:44 AM, Sun enters Pisces 9:56 PM.
Wednesday, February 19: Morning brings an efficient if uncomfortable mood, it can be hard to feel grateful or sufficient with an ambient nudging, pulling, pushing vibe. There’s more room to maneuver and generosity of spirit by midday as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. Get the teams moving in a good direction.
Moon sextile Mercury 2:56 AM, Moon square Venus 5:08 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 12:49 PM, Moon sextile Neptune 1:05 PM.
Thursday, February 20: Early-morning aspects can leave our hearts aching, either discouraged or longing, but that shifts by noon as the Moon enters Aquarius and imbues hopefulness. Research into the past gives us a clue about a present conundrum; look for the last time this problem was solved for information.
Moon conjunct Pluto 1:06 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn 7:18 AM, Jupiter sextile Neptune 8:56 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 12:41 PM, Moon square Uranus 7:13 PM.
All times are MST.
