Enjoy a quiet thoughtful serious few days before New Year’s because the energy then shifts with a vengeance. Be ready to up the heat as motivating Mars enters Aries, the instigator, on New Year’s Eve. We need to be on fire this year, but whether we feel the hearth fire of the gathering collective, the fire of a combustion engine building speed, or just burn the house down, will be up to us and how we respond to the aspects coming up.
We’ve passed through the darkest time, although the weather used to chill, the sun’s light will grow subtly stronger and longer each day. Let’s bring that solar spark into our hearts and catch fire in the best of ways. We’ll need this spark to build momentum for positive change over the next few years as Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, and Uranus work through grounded, concrete, territorial, earth signs. Everyone will feel called to make concrete, tangible change, but may disagree widely on what that is; do we build the wall -or save the earth. Like a mountain, earth signs bring energy that is hard to get moving, but like an earthquake or volcano (whether geological or political), once the change begins, the momentum can be unstoppable. Saturn and Pluto are both in determined earthy Capricorn as 2019 begins, Uranus enters grounded Taurus on March 6, Jupiter enters Capricorn next December. The work comes to a head in 2020, begin to steer the momentum this year. (For more details on the year ahead, see my Astro-Overview We’Moon calendar 2019- wemoon.ws)
Of the outer planets, only Neptune will be in an intuitive if confusing water sign in the year ahead, Pisces. While this encourages our spiritual lives to flow and allows our intuition and magic to be a real resource for us, it may also keep conflict around water rights cooking and keep Neptunian confusion, obfuscation, and illusion as major influences in world politics.
But for now, the weekend begins under a friendly Libra Moon, though as that Moon forms tough squares on Saturday, questions of peacefulness versus progress, care versus control may erupt. Serious thoughts way on the psyche about our responsibilities, our responsibilities to our world, to ourselves, to our families. Sort these carefully; we need to question burdens put on our shoulders by other people and look to see that they are true and authentic, or put them down. Listen to the responsibilities that call the heart, they may be different than those assumed by other people for us. This is a time of completing old chapters and getting ready for a fresh calling.
The Moon enters contemplative Scorpio on Monday; we can meditate on the year behind and on what we choose to invoke in the year ahead, but it might be good to avoid contentious people and difficult terrain on New Year’s Eve as Mars enters Aries.
Another point of contemplation, the stars ask us to look carefully at our emotional boundaries and how we arrange ourselves in relationship to others. We may notice that we are responsible for keeping people at a distance, or are responsible for letting them run roughshod over us. The healthier our boundaries, the closer we can let people to us, and engage our community in a way that still works for us. We don’t need to push them away or isolate, even if Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Aries suggests that answer. Any imbalance here will be painfully obvious.
Passions run high as 2019 begins. Mars inhabits its own sign of Aries we’ll feel the need to fight the good fight. Venus begins the year in in Mars-rules Scorpio, bright in the morning sky and in our hearts. Feelings run deep, defenses are strong, solitude is lovely, but isolation is not, so reach out.
A new chapter begins on January 2 as an enthusiastic Moon-Jupiter conjunction stirs new direction, confrontations, and a fresh sense of possibility and determination.
Friday, December 28: After early grumbles as the Moon opposes Mars, open the heart to an existential ache and a range of deep feeling. Find moments for art that touches the heart as Venus sextiles Pluto under a peace-loving Libra moon. Find nonverbal ways of expressing feelings. We need to feel emotional honesty, not talk about it.

Sunday, December 30: Get the socializing in early, make arrangements and adjustments this afternoon as the Moon opposes Uranus. Be prepared for a change in plans, a sudden shift of the agenda. Consider stepping back for personal inventory and moment of privacy tonight as the Moon enters Scorpio. With a good, clear challenge we can shift depression into fresh determination.
