Watch the Moon and Jupiter dancing together in the night sky, arching towards the west by midnight. Every month when the Moon and Jupiter waltz together our hearts swell, the volume of our emotions cranks up and events can take on extra size. Usually this uplifts the heart, sometime is just magnifies all feelings, particularly this year as Jupiter works its way through its own sign of Sagittarius
The Sun, Venus and Mars are all now in fixed-sign Leo, and Mercury joins them on Sunday. With this Leo line- up a party can begin at the drop of a hat. So can a disaster. On a bad day Leo can bring out a flash of temporary narcissism or exacerbate the selfishness and an inability to empathize, which, with a craving for attention no matter the type or cost, is the Leo shadow. No event is a small event, everything, from afternoon tea to a national disaster, magnifies. Our worries inflate to make sure we hear them. Attitudes and opinions entrench deeply.
Whether we tap into this tough Leo shadow or into the beautiful Leo gifts of generosity, warmth, leadership and inspiration depends on our choice, and upon our ability to love and empathize; Leo rules the heart. When our heart is open and intact, we can now bring that Leonine panache to anything, bring social graces to trip to the grocery store or celebration to an afternoon meal. We may feel more extroverted than usual and be able express ourselves with heart and flair, but could have trouble just being simple and real. To use this expressive time well, let’s keep the heart open and empathy engaged.
This could be particularly important this weekend as Jupiter, retrograde since April 9, now turns direct just as Uranus turns retrograde. We can feel rumbles of turmoil when a planet appears to change directions, as if we’ve been stirring the pot in one direction and now stir in the other. Uranus instigates change, rules electrical equipment, and brings potential for electrical problems or a blackout. Jupiter speaks of freedom and movement; it’s in its own sign of Sagittarius this year, the sign we associate with children, law, honesty, and travel, and brings our attention to the legal treatment of children on our international borders. This is a good week to speak up about any change we’d like to see. Well, any week is good for that, but it could be unusually efficacious this week.
To add to the emotional responsibilities, Venus is at the north end of a yod, a quincunx from Saturn and Pluto point at Venus, bringing our attention to the way we love, and what is our compassionate (Venus) responsibility (Saturn) in the face of loss, power, or the abuse of power (Pluto).
On Friday a Sagittarius Moon calls for a moment of freedom and beckons our dancing shoes or hiking boots. Saturday night through Monday a more determined Capricorn Moon brings up the year’s big issues and asks us to use competence and determination wisely. The Full Moon in sociable Aquarius Wednesday and Thursday brings the year’s best time for gatherings, whether family reunions or large-scale political movements.
Friday, August 9: Although the mood is generally upbeat, we may be tempted to test our relationships and see if they love us even if we’re difficult, or feel tested by other people’s needs, as Venus quincunx Saturn. Though we may push others away, everyone needs a little extra attention. It’s hard to stay focused unless there is human interest, dry details don’t hold us. We want to care, want to feel the world expanding and improving. Tonight, we can go a little stir crazy at home, get out and connect as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter, trines Venus and the sun.
Venus quincunx Saturn 2:23 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 5:24 PM, Moon trine Venus 8:18 PM, Moon trine Sun 10:38 PM.
Saturday, August 10: Get busy this morning as the Moon trines Mars. The energy grows hazy as the Sun quincunx Neptune later on, which is great for getting lost in a summer novel but tricky for navigating reality; we can misperceive what’s going on. The Moon enters Capricorn tonight and loans us pushiness and determination. The energy shifts late tonight as the Moon enters determined Capricorn.
Moon square Jupiter 12:11 AM, Moon square Mars 1:50 PM, Sun quincunx Neptune 6:44 PM, Moon enters Capricorn 10:49 PM.
Sunday, August 11: The energy shifts and twists as both Jupiter turns direct, Uranus retrogrades, and Mercury enters Leo. That Capricorn Moon offers endurance and follow through, loaning great determination for what we feel strongly about, but this mood can become manipulative. People may have trouble hearing one another. Be careful around machinery. Stay calm in the turbulence, expect people to act out, and use this willpower positively.
Jupiter stations direct 7:37 AM, Moon trine Uranus 11:36 AM, Venus quincunx Neptune 11:42 AM, Mercury enters Leo 1:45 PM, Uranus stations retrograde 8:26 PM.
Monday, August 12: Life gets real Address serious issues as the Capricorn Moon conjuncts Saturn and Pluto this morning. Take responsibility, not for some other person’s work, but for our own evolution and responsibility to citizenship and coworkers. Lightweight jokes fall flat while serious work furthers. Lightweight jokes fall flat, but serious work furthers.
Moon conjunct Saturn 3:53 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 9:57 AM, Moon conjunct Pluto 4:11 PM.
Tuesday, August 13: Camaraderie blossoms as social discontent grows. Differing ideas can be cheerfully brokered, just stay responsible for the work at hand as the Aquarius Moon opposes Mercury midday. Check in with family and teams. Ask how can love and art serve to heal our ills.
Moon enters Aquarius 9:35 AM, Moon opposes Mercury 2:32 PM, Moon square Uranus 10:46 PM.
Wednesday, August 14: Love, affection, resentment and power plays: uncomfortable issues around unintegrated personal power can come out passive-aggressively as Venus and Sun conjunct and challenge Pluto. Discuss the difference between nasty power and healthy empowerment. The Moon waxes full tonight in Aquarius, a time to gather, howl, philosophize, and solve the world’s problems.
Sun conjunct Venus 12:07 AM, Venus quincunx Pluto 12:07 AM, Sun quincunx Pluto 12:07 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 2:37 PM.
Thursday, August 15: The full Moon in Aquarius peaks this morning at 6:29 AM and brings our minds to larger relationships, our community, our tribe, the family of humankind: what we love about them, what we hate about it, and work we do to make it better. We can take this opportunity to say something healing, to notice how we communicate and make it better as Mercury trines Chiron. But watch a cranky spell around dinner time which can undermine that good work as the Moon opposes Mars. Our feelings sensitized tonight, tears and laughter get closer to the surface as the Moon enters Pisces at 9:49 PM.
Moon opposed Sun 6:29 AM, Moon opposed Venus 7:16 AM, Mercury trine Saturn 3:14 PM, Moon opposed Mars 7:01 PM, Moon enters Pisces 9:49 PM.
All times are MDT.
