Virgo season kicks in full time this week as the Sun joins Mars and Venus in Virgo today, Friday morning. Virgo is the last sign of summer, a time when the weather mutates and shimmers between seasons. It brings the industry of seeds and harvest, a time to step back from the cultural richness and emotional extremes of summer and step into the real work of fall.
Virgo is connected to the nervous system and the intestinal tract, the part of our body whose job is to sort the nutrients from the waste, and absorb the goodness, a wonderful metaphor for the work of Virgo season. It’s time to sort our seeds, to decide what we want to plant this year, what to eat, and what to feed the animals.
While our concept of the fall semester doesn’t really kick in until after Labor Day weekend, and doesn’t officially begin until the Autumnal equinox, this nervy industriousness kicks in early this year and we need to organize ourselves for the opportunities ahead.
Virgo loans us the superpower of sorting, it rules the intestinal tract whose job is to sort the nutrients from the waste, its symbol is a woman holding a sheaf of wheat whose job it was to separate the wheat from the chaff. It’s time to sort our seeds, the consequence and harvest of our days, to know what we want to plant this year, what to eat, and what to compost.
First it helps to inventory our life, assess and discern with that Virgo acuity and empathy what is worthy to pursue and inventory candidates running for public office. We do need to turn up the volume on our own perceptions, because we could feel other people’s opinions more acutely than our own; under the mutable Virgo empathic influence we can develop a chameleonlike response, so let’s choose carefully what we tune into, what color we place our changeable body upon.
Ancient astrologers knew that the nervous system and intestines digestive system work together. Virgo also co-rules the nervous system with Gemini, the other Mercury-ruled sign. As the weekend begins, the Moon enters Gemini and our nerves crank up. While we multitask with ease, nervous anxiety revs easily. Venus and Mars conjunct in Virgo on Saturday, a luscious time to take care of our health, to stretch our body and commune with our garden. While our assessing mind is working on over time, it can help to corral our thoughts when they wander into worst-case scenarios or possibilities that could go wrong; be aware, note those down, but bring our focus back to our points of success and gratitude, to the seeds we want to grow.
The trick with this Virgo nervousness is to give it a good job. Catch the mind when it starts to chew on oneself, or chew on beloveds, to worry or second guess. When we find our mental hamsters unproductively spinning the wheels of our brain, put that nervous energy to good use. Contemplate what to plan, organize, sort, clean, and align.
Venus and Mars conjunct in earthy Virgo on Saturday. It will feel luscious to take care of our health, to stretch our body or to commune with our garden, or do chores that also bring beauty to our life. A flirtatious energy runs strong with Venus and Mars conjunct in Virgo, but we can use our critical nature to distance ourselves from others, anxiety can make it hard to connect. Step through that and find common ground. Catch people doing something right, focus on their gifts, feel the heart with gratitude, and reap the Virgo bounty.
