Has author Cathryn McIntyre made contact with the spirit of Henry David Thoreau? If the story she tells in her memoir, The Thoreau Whisperer is true then perhaps so. After an encounter with her mentor, an eminent Thoreau scholar, eleven days after his death, in The Thoreau Whisperer, McIntyre finds she must hone her psychic abilities, set her doubts aside and accept the role she was destined to play in a remarkable collaboration that allows the words of Henry David Thoreau to be heard once again in our time.
McIntyre debuted The Thoreau Whisperer to a standing room only crowd at the Thoreau Farm Birthplace in Concord, MA in 2018. She said of the event, “Reading words that I believe originate with the spirit of Thoreau in the very home where he was born was sheer magic to me.”
Readers have described The Thoreau Whisperer as:
“A book that challenges you to see beyond the physical and into something deeper and greater than ourselves.”
– Stephen Beecher, Indie Book Reviewer
“…beautifully written, heartfelt and wonderfully enlightening!”
– Stacy Deckers, Indie Book Reviewer
“…an enlightening read that makes for an educational and spiritual journey into the afterlife.”
– Deborah Beauvais, DreamVisions 7 Radio
In addition to The Thoreau Whisperer (2018), McIntyre is the author of Honor in Concord: Seeking Spirit in Literary Concord (2008); and the founder of The Concord Writer, a literary and publishing concern dedicated to the words, wisdom and enduring spirit of Thoreau. She has studied the literary history of Concord, Massachusetts for over 25 years; holds a B.A. in English literature from Michigan State University; and is a long-time member of The Thoreau Society. She is also a natural psychic and clairvoyant, a UFO experiencer, and a sometime ghost investigator, whose blog about a ghostly occurrence in Maine led to an investigation by author Greg Latimer and her story being included in his book, Ghosts of the Boothbay Region. She moved from Michigan to the Boston area in 1984 and has lived in or near Concord, Massachusetts since 1998.
McIntyre’s remarkable story, intelligence, elegant prose and life-affirming message combine to make her a most compelling subject to interview. She has appeared on such radio shows as The Malliard Report, The Social Psychic, DreamVisions7, Awakening to the Unknown, and Boston’s Commonwealth Journal. Paranormal Underground Magazine featured a candid interview with McIntyre as the Psychic Spotlight in their October 2018 issue. That interview can be read on her website: www.theconcordwriter.com.
At a time when there is an enormous interest in the supernatural and the paranormal, McIntyre’s steadfast sincerity will disarm even the most ardent disbelievers. And in an era where truth seems hard to find, in The Thoreau Whisperer McIntyre reminds us that “the truest of all truths” can still be found in the words of Henry David Thoreau.
