Although this book is called The Essential Oils Diet, this book is not a diet, but a lifestyle change. Dr Z did not want the book to have the stigma of diet in the title and I would have to agree. This book is about creating permanent lifestyle changes to improve ones’ health. I was introduced to Dr Z and Mama Z through their online essential oils masterclass. The masterclass was a basic introduction to essential oils and their use. This book is a more in depth application of how to harness the power of essential oils and bioactive foods.
The Essential Oils Diet offers a practical, two phase program that is backed by research. The first phase is a 30 day essential fast track, which can help get rid of excess fat and weight in a safe and quick manner. Phase two is the essential lifestyle portion. It is an easy, hands on maintenance program, which is meant to be a permanent lifestyle change. This book offers delicious and easy to make recipes, meal planning and an action plan to assist in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and improving and maintaining great health.
The authors did not just focus on physical health and detoxification. Environmental toxins and ways to avoid or reduce them are reviewed thoroughly. Toxic emotions are covered as well. One of the best parts in this book, is the section on reducing toxic emotions.
The authors provide a 12 step emotional detox plan. Here are the first six steps of the plan with a brief explanation. (pages 191-193):
- Let it go. The past is the past, and no amount of regret can change that.
- Release yourself as well. Focus on the future and achieve your full potential.
- Practice self love. Love yourself as you are.
- Recite positive affirmations. Specific statements break the cycle of negative thinking and help you visualize change.
- Don’t look back. Remind yourself life is a journey and we all make mistakes. Learn from them so you do not repeat them.
- Have a good cry by yourself. Crying is self soothing and can actually improve your mood.
This is definitely a book that would benefit everyone, no matter their age or health status. It is easy to read and understand. The plan is very easy to implement and follow. The overall focus is making permanent lifestyle changes which are enhanced by essential oils.
