Whether political tension or tension between tectonic plates, what was set in motion over the last few weeks still echoes and calls for action. But with less major astrological action, instead of more and more being heaped upon our plate, we get a chance to work on what is already here and in process. That is plenty.
If we’ve recently begun a new phase of our work, or a new chapter of self-perception, let’s follow up this week. If world events call us to get involved, let’s find like minds and do so. The sun, Saturn Pluto and Jupiter are all still in Capricorn, Capricorn energy loves a clear goal and real work, or it can leave us worried. This worry can be cranked up with a nervous energy which underlies this week as mental Mercury squares Uranus, stimulates our nervous system, and can bring some unexpected information. But that aspect also helps us think outside the box and adapt to change, we just have to give the mental hamsters something to work on to keep them calm.
The weekend begins under a thoughtful Scorpio Moon. We may need to spend some time alone on Friday and Saturday, then Sunday and Monday feel the energy shift as the Sun enters Aquarius and the Moon enter Sagittarius. Mood will become more upbeat, more active, in the streets.
Although the energy lightens by Monday, MLK day asks us to consider serious social political questions of the day and think about the politics of our spirituality, and the spirituality of our politics as Sensitive Venus in Pisces forms a challenging semi-square to both Pluto and Saturn. It’s a day to honor an exemplar of Capricorn, someone who had a dream, a vision, and walked all the way across the country. But our hearts can ache, whether from compassion or because a situation makes it hard to be sensitive as gentle Venus in Pisces forms a challenging aspect to both Pluto and Saturn. It furthers to be kind with one another, not get caught by jealousy or withhold to keep our hearts a little safer. It’s Better to radically love without enabling bad behavior in others.
That nervous energy stays active midweek as the Sun squares Uranus, a competent Capricorn Moon encourages us to stop complaining and start fixing, try some new answers. We can make real progress on ongoing problems and deal with some structural issues, foundations, or reorganization. This gives us energy to work on buildings that have been rocked by earthquakes, or lives that have been rocked by change. Compassion and efficiency can work together as Venus sextiles Jupiter.
Friday, January 17: Communication and transportation could get screwy this morning as Mercury challenges foggy Neptune. It’ll be worth the effort to connect early on, because people are open, even if they aren’t quite sure where they’re going. The Moon enters private Scorpio late morning and people grow more guarded, focused, and impatient. Plans change midafternoon as the Moon squares Uranus, but the mood softens tonight, gentle camaraderie or privacy as needed, but keep the emotional demands low as people need to refill their wells.

Saturday, January 18: Expect the unexpected as Mercury squares Uranus. Nervous restlessness or irritation can instigate unproductive comments, so don’t take it personally. Be willing to change mindsets or incorporating new information; don’t throw the old out, just take the room needed to adjust. Our nervous system may need some time alone to move forward in a good way. It furthers to break routine.
Mercury square Uranus 1:31 AM, Moon sextile Uranus 5:45 AM, Moon trine Neptune 4:13 PM.
Sunday, January 19: The Scorpio Moon encourages contemplation, personal work, meditation this morning as the Scorpio Moon sextile Saturn Pluto and the Sun. Feel the urge to reconnect, to get out and about this afternoon as the Moon enters outgoing Sagittarius. It furthers to check in on world news and faraway friends, find out what’s going on in the big picture. While we’re joking, accidental truth can slip through; a good laugh can heal some recent tensions, but honor privacy boundaries.

Monday, January 20: A direct, competent, straightforward mood permeates this morning, restless outspokenness encourages and honest conversation even when it might hurt feelings as the Sagittarius Moon conjuncts Mars. Concerns with aesthetic things or events that tug at heartstrings can accidentally challenge relationships as Venus forms a challenging semi-square to Saturn and Pluto; process feelings where they belong, not just where they’re easy to dump.

Tuesday, January 21: An aimless mood can make it challenging to get going and get down to work. Check in on people, have meetings, nurture relationships, support those recently challenged. Talk, the work put in on relationships and teamwork now, will save time later. Help everyone get on the same page. Make progress on last week’s work rather than start new work now.
Moon enters Capricorn 9:59 PM.
Wednesday, January 22: Peer through fuzzy thinking or confused circumstances this morning as the Sun challenges confusing Neptune. It’s okay to not know, or not have a clear decision just yet. Our industriousness picks up this afternoon, though a nervous discontent can make it hard to stay on track as the Sun sextiles Chiron and squares restless Uranus. Take a walk, change the scene, and get a fresh perspective.

Thursday, January 23: Get serious instead of grim as the Capricorn Moon conjuncts Saturn and Pluto and reminds us of mortality. Find some seriously productive ways of managing concerns, get busy rather than worry. Collaboration furthers, but it has to be true collaboration, rather than manipulation. Stay sensitive to one another no matter how busy, as we need to feel held by our chosen family.
