This weekend we can enjoy the energy of the season, marvel at the twinkling nights, and still feel the world shifting underneath. The planets push us towards a tough growth spurt this coming year; as Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn grow closer to their mid-January conjunction, we get more and more uncomfortable with systems that chafe, whether it’s a job that no longer fits, a family matriarch that controls, or a government which isn’t working. Many long-standing conflicts will come to a head over the next few months. But Jupiter has just entered Capricorn and prepares us to improve the situation in the year ahead.
But meanwhile, on top of those deep, tectonic-plate-shifting, aspects, comes layers of impatience, curiosity, and seasonal frivolity. As the holidays approach we’ll need both time in in the thick of the party and moments of deep solitude as both our introverted sides and our extroverted sides are pumped up; extraversion is encouraged by the Sun in outgoing Sagittarius, while Mercury and Mars in subterranean Scorpio, and Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all in serious, tradition-loving Capricorn, call us inward.
On Friday and Saturday, the mood can be direct, impatient, and honest under an impulsive Aries Moon. Mercury and Mars, both still in Scorpio, add a sting, extra curiosity, suspicion, investigation and a need for moments of solitude. Mars stays in Scorpio until the new year and continues to pressure us to investigate, detect, and stand our ground. It can also entrench opinions unless we choose to investigate our own personal prejudices. We may also savor secrets. Whether it’s a secret present, a project we don’t want to share while it’s in the early stages, or a suspicion that we’d like to hold onto because it is part of our identity.
On Sunday and Monday, the Moon in earthy Taurus can slow us down and encourage us to think about what we really need and don’t need for the next step in our life. We can assess what is needed both quickly, for the holidays, and long-term, for where we’re going in our next chapter.
The general mood improves when Mercury, organizer of our mental switchboard, finally leaves brooding Scorpio where it’s been since October 3 and joins the Sun in Sagittarius on Monday. It normally spends three weeks in a sign, but because of its retrograde cycle, did the bunny-hop back and forth through Scorpio for months. Mercury in Sagittarius can help us get our mind in the game for the holidays ahead, make us all a little easier to get along with, help us socialize, if potentially tactlessly, at a party, and talk things over frankly, but with less of a sting then last week. Mercury in Sagittarius encourages us to speak up, but doesn’t encourage us to filter our conversation; the Twitter-verse could light up for the next few weeks. It also encourages us to get excited about new plans rather than stuck in stories of the past which may have haunted our fall.
Early next week we need rein in a tendency to be controlling, and pay spacious attention to our relationships as Venus in Capricorn approaches a conjunction to Saturn on Tuesday. We can be tempted to try and test, possess, or manipulate others if we feel insecure. But since the Sagittarian planets push back with a desire for freedom, this can create conflicts. Instead, let’s control our own creative projects, but practice good relationship skills and celebrate our beloveds’ unpredictable autonomy.
A full Moon in nervy, verbal Gemini on Wednesday encourages a talkative social buzz, but we may feel scattered and spread thin with too much on our plate. The busier life gets, the more we need a few moments to hear ourselves. We can direct this nervous communicative energy get paperwork in order, papers written and get out our newsletters and seasonal greetings. Enjoy the buzz, but keep priorities clear.
Friday, December 6: Be direct and to the point, give other people the specific information they need to make a good decision. Waste no time; the longer we take, the less they will listen. Most people will work best with bursts of focus interspersed with frequent breaks. Don’t take insensitivity personally in a socially awkward moment midafternoon as the Moon squares Venus, some urgency can make us tactless. We’ll be more sociably curious as the evening approaches and the Moon trines the Sun. Consider playing it safe and cozy tonight, overnight tense aspects could just stir up strange dreams or set off unusual events.
Moon square Venus 3:57 PM, Moon square Sun 6:04 PM.
Saturday, December 7: The impatient Aries Moon makes cranky aspects (squares both Saturn and Pluto) very early in the morning, which could leave us out of sorts or just extra willful this morning. Let people wake up on their own speed. Check in on the world stage and see what’s going on. Then the Moon makes no major aspects until it changes sign tomorrow morning, which can leave us in a hurry-up -and- wait mode, with clear ideas of what to do but trouble getting into gear. Music and art further; expressions of the soul with no particular practical goal help us process within. People need spontaneity and to wander or putter at their own pace, to listen to their souls and let tension unwind.
Moon square Saturn 2:05 AM. Moon square Pluto 8:01 AM.
Sunday, December 8: The vibe is both more settled and more intuitively connected as the Moon enters earthy Taurus, the Sun squares intuitive and spiritual Neptune, and Venus sextiles Neptune. A good day to go to a holiday bazaar, combined spirituality and thing earthy. Our immune system may need support, headlines may talk about infections or disease. We may feel connection through earthly channels. Rub a shoulder, cook a meal, buy a present, volunteer, decorate, or donate.
Moon enters Taurus 12:29 AM, Sun square Neptune 1:59 AM, moon’s trine Jupiter 2:57 AM, Moon conjunct Uranus 6:34 AM, Venus sextile Neptune 2:48 PM, Jupiter square Chiron 9:27 PM.
Monday, December 9: Arguments can spring from stubborn honesty early this morning as the Moon opposes Mars and Mercury enter Sagittarius. People just have to tell their story. But after this quick unclogging, look forward to a productive day as the Moon trines Venus, Saturn, and Pluto over the course of the day. Travel plans simmer. We easily see what needs to be done and may be willing to put steady effort into improvement.
Moon opposed Mars 2:09 AM, Mercury enters Sagittarius 2:41 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 7:19 AM, Moon trine Venus 9:07 AM, Moon trine Saturn 12:54 PM, Moon trine Pluto 6:12 PM.
Tuesday, December 10: Conversation speeds up with a restless humor. We can work efficiently on many fronts but the challenge will be to not juggle too many plates in the air as the Moon enters Gemini and opposes Mercury. People are ready to talk, but may not be ready to decide. Nervous systems may need soothing. Consciously stay on target for what’s most important, then enjoy impromptu interactions around the edges.
Mercury trine Chiron 2:31 AM, Moon in Gemini 9:46 AM, Moon opposed Mercury 1:42 PM.
Wednesday, December 11: We may have four pots on the fire, multitask but not to the point of inefficiency as the Moon waxes full in Gemini. Nervous energy leaks, steady the nerves to stay on target. As Venus conjuncts Saturn we can love our work, or love can feel like work, or working may cramp our romantic style. Network, cross pollinate, communicate on this full Moon in Gemini, but don’t spill another person’s secrets, and pay a little extra attention to beloveds at home. Our dear ones may need some reassurance that we have their back. It’s not that they’re insecure, they just need to know. Some romantic relationships some relationships may reveal they aren’t working, and we need to turn in a different direction.
Venus conjunct Saturn 3:04 AM, Moon square Neptune 3:10 PM, Moon opposed the Sun 10:12 PM, Mercury semi-square Saturn 11:06 PM
Thursday, December 12: After a busy morning it will feel good to reconnect with our nest and chosen family as the Moon enters domestic Cancer. If the full Moon left us unsettled, now is time to come back to our center. If we have to stay out in the fray, it pays to practice some form of self-care to refill the wells. Let’s catch up with ourselves and the people we love, find a safe and secure place within. Someone around us may need our hard-earned wisdom, the benefit of our experience, as Chiron turns direct tonight.
Moon enters Cancer 4:22 PM, Moon opposes Jupiter 8:32 PM, Chiron turns direct, 8:47 PM, Moon sextile Uranus 9:48 PM.
