The ghosts and ghouls from the past don’t go away just because we’re past Halloween. Thoughtful Mercury just turned retrograde in haunting Scorpio where it will be until November 20. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio stirs up our memories, maudlin thoughts, old grudges, and churns up sludge in the news. We can hold onto resentment like it’s a treasure box, and once that box of moldy old resentments opens, they can be expressed with a scorpion’s sting. Let’s see if we can clear the air cleanly and straightforwardly instead. And to further pull us into this mood, we’re in a limbo phase between the social Day of the Dead and All Souls Day, and the astrological cross-quarter day, the mid-point between equinox and solstice, which lands on November 7 at 10:24 Am MST and is a good moment for personal observations.
Scorpio brings great focus. With both the Sun and Mercury in Scorpio right now it’s all too easy to obsess. Scorpio can work with logic and encourage us to pursue research with scientific precision. We can find out what’s wrong in the basement, what really happened back in 1990, who really was on that called to the Ukraine, or what’s at the bottom of any ongoing problem. Our dreams may be haunted with unfinished business from the past. When our focus is that tight, we’re not seeing the whole picture.
With a little effort we can switch that dial in our brain and turn that focus to a more productive corner we can look for the point, who can help, what brings us gratitude, and what seeds do we want to nurture for the future. Scorpio provides the focus; we can direct this beam with our heart and mind. We can use this focus for good.
It does help that emotional Venus leaves Scorpio and enters more freewheeling Sagittarius today. Mars in Libra also softens the mood and helps us work together once we establish some common goal. Our timing can be off in relationships this week, one person may want to bond while the other needs a moment alone. Give each other room for the changing rhythms and be considerate of another’s needs. We may feel needy, but no one wants to talk about it; vulnerability will not be our idea of a good time.
People in positions of power acting out, pushing and pulling with what will they can dominance issues in nasty comments, especially if they are afraid or unconfident of their position.
Over the weekend a competent Capricorn Moon brings an efficient if grim and humorless edge. If no one’s cooperating, let’s get on with the work ourselves, and meet them again after we’ve done what we think needs to be done. Watch a tendency to be self-righteous, to feel that one knows what everybody else should be doing. Our needs and rhythm will be quite individualistic.
Under the Aquarius Moon Sunday through Tuesday we can feel tugged between the needs of the group and our personal needs, and will feel better if we can find of time for both. Feelings amp up on Tuesday and Wednesday as Mars squares Pluto, which can increase frustrations, accidents, and conflicts unless we pay attention and prioritize grace. Watch for interesting political sparks and know this is just part of the cycle. Notice revenge fantasies, find them amusing but don’t let them run the show.
Relationships can get touchy late Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as the Moon enters ever so sensitive Pisces while Venus forms a minor difficult aspect to Pluto and Mars. Our feelings can get too easily hurt and we get prickly in response. Our prickliness can then poke another person, who reacts badly. Don’t become wrestling cacti. If someone gets prickly, stand back and don’t take it personally. Find what can be done to soothe hurt feelings rather than add to the problem. Let compassion stir the heart and put that sensitivity to good use.
Friday, November 1: We may feel a heaviness this morning, Mercury just turned retrograde. Communication scrambles and people get easily frustrated as the Capricorn Moon leans on us and urges us to accomplish, but Mercury retrograde asks us to just hold still. Cut each other slack and slow the pace. Things become funnier after Venus enters Sagittarius midafternoon, this thread of lightness can give us the edge needed to move forward. Laughter helps tonight, but we may need to process some conundrum first.

Be with people and let that be enough connection, acceptance accomplishes what pressure does not.

Monday, November 4: It could be a slow start this morning, people can be a tad sullen or disconnected and nothing is fast off the mark. It’s just hard to get all the parts working together. But we can have camaraderie about it all if, instead of engaging the background willful torque, with a few real arguments brooding in the shadows, we wait until the coffee kicks in, make a joke, and connect over the oddness. Low expectations but steady effort produce better results.
Moon square Sun 3:22 AM, Moon trine Mars 9:27 PM.
Tuesday, November 5: Something throws a monkey wrench in the gears this morning as Mars squares Pluto. We are painfully aware of what feels unfair. Create collaboration to handle any problems, assume people want to work together even if they don’t show. A common goal helps get the tension out front, and not between us. Evening softens, feelings tenderize as the Moon enters Pisces.
