We’re heading into a competent but potentially difficult few weeks. At the moment we have five planets in Capricorn, with a major conjunction between Saturn and Pluto arriving in mid-January; Capricorn’s symbol is that of a mer-goat, a creature that can dive down deep for a dream, and then walk that dream up to mountaintops. With a vision, a purpose, this Capricorn energy can help us make things happen.
We need a goal, a plan to get there, and a sense of purpose, to put that goal in the larger context. The Capricorn energy can leave us depressed if we don’t have a place to go. A mountain goat is the epitome of grace and progress as they leap up or down a mountain, but they can look pretty silly walking on flat terrain.
Capricorn on its high note calls us to do the right thing and be honorable. It calls us to the mountaintop. If we’re not connected to that sense of honor, accomplishment and respect, the Capricorn energy can substitute ambition and manipulation. There is a sociopathic edge to Capricorn energy when it divorces from compassion and honor. Every sign has its shadow side, Capricorn’s competence can become the efficient thief, the political manipulator, a ruthless streak which says anything goes as long as I get what I want. That competence and leadership needs a sense of purpose, needs to be servant of the heart. Right now, we need clear goals, and to get those we need to ask big questions about the purpose of our life and work, what are the organizing principles of our government and our world. Mental Mercury now conjuncts expansive Jupiter, the sun approaches Saturn and Pluto all in Capricorn.
Helpfully, Mars leaves snarky Scorpio, where it’s been since November, Mars has just entered relaxed and freewheeling Sagittarius which can soften this seriousness with a sense of humor and honesty. We may be able to let go of some anger or frustration we were carrying, and still have places to go, things to do, and worlds to repair.
As the weekend begins a feisty Aries encourages us to jump into a debate, stand up for what we believe, or jumpstart the next chapter of our life. The moon enters earthier Taurus on Saturday and encourages some self-care and personal organization through Monday morning. It’s time to get our ducks in a row.
The moon enters talkative Gemini Monday evening through Wednesday, which encourages us to have meetings, make a point, and get the word out. Good time to begin a new semester or develop blueprints with the team. Sit down and sketch out the big sweeping arcs of the work ahead and discern what’s the next step that needs to be taken.
Midweek our imagination and intuition are given a boost as the sun and Venus sextile intuitive and creative Neptune. Because that Merck goat needs a dream or vision to work towards, that sense of purpose, it furthers to stop don’t not get busy just for the sake of getting busy, but take time to daydream, to vision, to make sure that our progress is in line with our intuition, and that we are working creatively and not just diligently, towards our goal. Plans help us with any creative project but they can also help us find a way out of difficult situations. This is a gentle aspect, that door is cracked open but we have to choose to engage our imagination.
The week ends as the as the moon enters cancer, waxing towards full. Brings up our emotional needs, a need to balance our family and personal lives with our work and professionally call. But it can also bring a intensely defensive edge. Good roots at home can help us grow in our work it out there in the world, it’s important to believe in ourselves and take care of the cells, but watch that a defensive edge does not become we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot in the process of defending our territory.
Friday, January 3: Make it happen. Some blockade shifts, people are more willing to move, to compromise, but will be tactlessly honest about it as Mars enter Sagittarius. Make use of friendly impatience this morning. Choose carefully what power struggle to engage late afternoon as the moon squares serious Saturn and Pluto. We can just get lost in a daydream, space out, or harness this imagination to create or problem-solve. Just use it consciously, otherwise we can see what we want to see- rather than what’s really there. Listen to intuitive hits, and check for facts.
Thursday, January 9: Whether the issues are old or new, emotional matters stir up new complications as the moon enters Cancer.
