While our inspiration and emotional impatience cranks up this week, our logistical capacity begins to slow down, so let’s get ready. Venus, a planet that contributes to emotional tone, enters the brash, fresh, impatient fire-sign Aries, encourages emotional and creative bravery and call up the first wisps of restless spring fever. But just as the heat turns up in our hearts, Mercury adds sludge to our efficiency as it appears to slow down to turn retrograde from February 16- March 9.
Today, as the weekend begins, Venus leaves sensitive, easily-overwhelmed Pisces and enters Aries. The Moon enters fiery Leo, they form a supportive trine, and we would really love something to celebrate. The Moon waxes full in expressive Leo on Saturday night, just after midnight. Whether we are demonstrating, processing, celebrating or howling at the Moon this weekend, we know what we feel, and need to express our feelings. Melodrama can be easier to deal with than real drama, and it can feel easier to be dramatic than to really feel the vulnerability of the situation. But just because our feelings are exaggerated, doesn’t mean the spark isn’t authentic underneath.
Practicalities flood back in on Sunday, and anxiety can push us to get organized or meet a deadline as Mercury semi-squares Pluto under an industrious Virgo moon. This pressure can just make us nervous, or it can help us get the details in place for the coming Mercury retrograde if we use it wisely.
It will help to make lists because our minds, while potentially inspired, can also feel as foggy as rain over snow while Mercury in dreamy, intuitive, spiritual but sometimes confusing Pisces approaches a conjunction with Pisces’s ruler, Neptune, arbiter of all things spiritual, intuitive, liquid, permeable, and escapist, and turns retrograde a week from Monday.
The next few weeks are good for Neptunian practices, so let’s make it safe to be sensitive with one another and engage the imagination fully. Soak in hot tubs and dream about the future. Pursue spiritual practice. Just know that we’ll be unusually ripe for the Neptunian tendency to be confused by our hopes and fears and so invent the future – for better or worse- rather than look at the facts.
Also watch out for delays due to water damage or fear of invading viruses. Over the last few weeks as both Venus and Mars aspected Neptune they left us feeling unusually permeable just as the new coronavirus picked up steam.
Speaking of confusion, for this last year the progressed chart for America has experienced transiting Neptune sitting right on the USA progressed Sun (mythic American chart of July 4, 1776), which signals uncertainty and confusion about our identity as a country, and confusion about what’s really going on. This aspect begins to pull away over the next few months, though the USA progressed Moon in Capricorn will conjunct transiting Pluto, which can intensify our country’s identity crisis, amp up power struggles and leave us feeling so not at home with ourselves and the world. The good news is the progressed moon enters Aquarius a week before the next election.
Back to this week; on Tuesday the Moon enters friendly, more relaxed, relationship-oriented Libra and we begin Valentine’s season. Consider celebrating early because the Moon enters focused Scorpio later on, which can lead to a musky- but not necessarily romantic -Valentine weekend ahead.
In this last ten days before Mercury retrogrades it’s good to reach out, get our travel plans in place, and work on our plans for the spring. We’ll have to adjust and correct as we go along, but if we sketch it out now, less will fall through the cracks.
Friday, February 7: Deal with some tough reality or stormy feelings early this morning as the Moon opposes Saturn and Pluto, play it safe. Gumption returns midday with a surge of emotional bravery as Venus enters Aries, the Moon enters Leo, and they trine one another. Strong feelings can be clearly expressed, just watch that a passionate response does not pour oil on a fire. Camaraderie is healing in the early evening, but nerves can fray later on as the Moon squares Uranus.
Moon opposed Pluto 5:02 AM, Moon opposed Saturn 8:42 AM, Venus enters Aries 1:02 PM, Moon enters Leo 3:44 PM, Moon trine Venus 3:59 PM, Moon square Uranus 8:42 PM.
Saturday, February 8: A day of contradictions leads up to an energized full Moon just after midnight, the mood can alternate between self-indulgent and industrious, lazy and wandering, sensitive to the needs of others and self-centered. Share feelings, memories, and laugh at the family foibles. Tension can grow between social responsibilities and what we really want to do as the full Moon cranks up tonight; it furthers to find time for both. It could be a fabulous night for arts and expression, so if we are feeling dramatic, let’s put it someplace creative and avoid Shakespearean tragedy at home.
No major aspects- Moon opposes the Sun just after midnight.
Sunday, February 9: Emotions still ride high this morning, the mood will be mostly warm with occasional oppositional behavior under stress. We may feel some anxiety around our next steps later in the afternoon as Mercury semi-squares Pluto and the Moon enters Virgo. Let the tension flow through. Will feel better if we organize the details with love and compassion. Remember those details are just tools to further the situation, and not the point themselves.
Moon opposed the Sun 12:33 AM, Moon trine Mars 9:08 AM, Mercury semi-square Pluto 1:12 PM, Moon enters Virgo 4:38 PM, Moon trine Uranus 9:30 PM.
Monday, February 10: Our nervous system could use some support, last weekend’s emotional high tide can leave us feeling washed up on the shore as the Moon opposes Mercury this morning. Go gently this morning, give everyone time to arrive. Let them feel warmth and support and watch the blossom. Take an opportunity to heal an old wrong or twinge. Stay busy with smaller items and batten down the hatch. Rest up tonight as the Moon opposes Neptune.
Venus conjunct Chiron 1:05 AM, Moon opposed Mercury 7:50 AM, Moon trine Jupiter 5:54 PM, Moon opposed Neptune 8:29 PM.
Tuesday, February 11: There’s a lot to do as the Virgo Moon trine Saturn and Pluto, and the feeling of impending deadlines or other urgency can make us irritable midday as the Moon squares Mars. Don’t take rough edges personally, stick to the work at hand, and deal with minor problems or and just work through the workload. Tend what needs to be done. The mood shifts and people are more aware of the consequences of what they say when the Moon goes into Libra late afternoon.
Moon trine Pluto 6:35 AM, Moon trine Saturn 10:36 AM, Moon square Mars 11:25 AM, Moon enters Libra 4:37 PM.
Wednesday, February 12: Even though we’re in a kinder mood, we may need to wrestle with obstreperous people, depressive thoughts, or just wade through work as Mercury semi-squares Saturn midday. If people get argumentative, don’t get distracted; stay on task and use this somewhat irritable efficiency to accomplish. Enjoy a warmer, more sociable, potentially romantic evening. Get out art supplies and make Valentines.
Moon opposes Venus 1:06 AM, Mercury semi-square Saturn 12:32 PM, Moon square Jupiter 6:53 PM.
Thursday, February 13: This creatively sociable day is good for class projects and collaborative meetings as the Libra Moon trines the Aquarius Sun this morning. Around lunchtime some bureaucratic or other obstruction can frustrate us, but just slows things down. The mood gets sharper-edged, complex feelings around relationships as the Moon enters Scorpio and opposes Uranus. Don’t be surprised by an unexpected shift of mood this evening, it’s not permanent; honor the emotional needs of the moment.
Moon square Pluto 7:20 AM, Moon trine the Sun 8:16 AM, Moon sextile Mars 2:40 PM, Moon enters Scorpio 5:37 PM, Moon opposes Uranus 10:53 PM.
