Welcome to the fertile psychic loam of darkest week of the year. On Saturday at 9:19 PM MST the Sun enters Capricorn and winter officially begins. Let’s gift ourselves a moment of rest, if we can, as Sun appears to rise and set at the same southernmost point for three days. Listen to dreams, review the last year and release what needs to be released into a bonfire. Then our days begin to lengthen, the light slowly returns, and we celebrate, along with most cultures in one form or another, this return of light and hope.
The Sun in Capricorn calls us back to our traditional roots. We can feel a homing instinct, the hearth fire beckons and Capricorn whispers of the traditions and roots we’ve grown over time that leave us feeling stuck or make us strong. We will still need to take a moment alone when we need it. Motivating Mars is now broody Scorpio through early January and keeps personal and political undercurrents swirling. Mars in Scorpio also can give us a hell of sting if our temper goes, and it will go easily if we feel endangered.
This Friday is solstice Eve, a great time for big public gathering. The Sun is still in Sagittarius the Moon in friendly Libra, emotional Venus is just entered sociable Aquarius and mental Mercury is in honest, restless, Sagittarius.
The mood gears down on Saturday as the Moon enters inward-looking Scorpio, opposes Uranus, and squares Venus and stirs up our emotions; this could bring turmoil, longing, or just generalized mood swings this morning. We grow more comfortable and even-keeled, though still thoughtful this afternoon, and may be ready for a good bonfire and solstice songs as the Sun enters Capricorn tonight. If we’re visiting with friends and family, let’s not press everybody to interact; give everybody give people time and space to arrive together, respect boundaries and let people slowly synch gears together without feeling trapped.
Early on Sunday morning, both the emotional planets, Venus and Mars, make exciting aspects; Venus squares Uranus and Mars sextiles Pluto, which can both help us truly let go whatever we threw in the fire last night, and gives us the energy to try something different. But it can make relationships extra sparky with both love and restlessness unless we channel this energy into exploration instead of irritation. Go to a different place, take tradition with a twist, or stretch understanding to accept another person’s walk through this life.
Traveling gets easier and gatherings get more festive on Monday as the Moon enter Sagittarius. A flexible, festive, experimental edge stays active as the Sun trines Uranus on Christmas Eve. The good news is we may want to take a different tact on the holiday; the challenge will be that other people may not want to go along with our plans; our eccentricities are showing. The mood stays generally festive and funny Christmas morning as the Moon conjuncts Mercury in Sagittarius. Though a new Moon in Capricorn- solar eclipse that evening speaks of the changing of the era.
Friday, December 20: On this generally friendly and positive day, early afternoon can bring some challenges. Serious information can be true, helpful, and still a pain to deal with, whether it’s a difficult headline, a tough parameter we have to deal with, ore and an extra load of a pile of work that lands on our desk as the Libra Moon squares Saturn and Pluto. When the workdays over, though, we’ll be ready for some seasonal magic as Venus semi-squares Neptune. Let the stars glimmer and don’t make anyone be realistic tonight.
Moon sextile Mercury 7:22 AM, Moon square Saturn 1:07 PM, Moon the square Pluto 4:23 PM, Venus semi-square Neptune 8:51 PM.
Saturday, December 21: The Moon enters deep and moody Scorpio this morning, and we may want more time alone than the holidays permit. If you’ve gathered together with friends and family, give everyone a little room; let them speak up when they’re ready, don’t crowd or over- hug. People are a little rebellious to other people’s plans midmorning, but grow more cooperative as the day progresses. We’ll be ready for a bonfire or other ceremonial turning points tonight as the Sun enters Capricorn at 9:19 PM MST.
Venus sextile Chiron 4:14 AM, Moon sextile Sun 4:05 AM, Moon enters Scorpio 5:57 AM, Moon square Venus 8:51 AM, Moon oppose Uranus 10:46 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 1:20 PM, Sun enters Capricorn 9:19 PM.
Sunday, December 22: This morning, emotions overflow, excitement is in the air, and so is a certain irritability as both Venus and Mars are affected by outer planets and under a Scorpio Moon. We can love our people and still need time alone. And aesthetic restlessness can encourage us to travel, to rewrap a package, do there about our looks. A feeling that change is needed, but no agreement on what, along with an underlying existential anxiety can make us irritable with one another for no apparent reason. The mood improves in the afternoon, just watch for a moment this evening when disagreements flare easily as the Moon conjuncts Mars in Scorpio. Take a deep breath, let go of surface irritations, and remember what’s important.
Venus square Uranus 6:30 AM, Mars sextile Pluto 7:32 AM, Moon trine Neptune 9:31 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 4:50 PM, Moon sextile Pluto 7:51 PM, Moon conjuncts Mars 8:27 PM.
Monday, December 23: Laughter comes easier this morning, so does dealing with guests as the Moon enters irrepressible Sagittarius. Though the people around us may be just fine, some old wound could get tweaked, some tough memory stirred that we want to process out loud, but we need to make sure our audience is up for it. If not, let them be and take a moment to honor the old feelings flowing through. Midday, we want to see beauty, have a social moment, appreciate company, and though we may hustle about, really won’t be in the mood to be efficient. Conversation starts and stops, ranges widely with honesty if not with tact. If things get awkward, change the subject rather than start an argument.
Sun square Chiron 8:16 AM, Moon enters Sagittarius 9:34 AM, Moon sextile Venus 5:37 PM.
Tuesday, December 24: Whether or not this is your holiday, find a way to enjoy both tradition, and something uniquely new as the Sun trines inventive Uranus. Morning may be a little sleepy and humorous. Everyone is shooting off in different directions, like a game of pinball, it’s hard to get us to focus. Tonight may be lovely, if we can let go of trying to control the situation and appreciate our unique differences. But as the evening progresses, we can make mistakes with our social graces or step on one another’s toes. Go to sleep if things feel off.
Moon square Neptune 1:55 PM, Sun trine Uranus 2:43 PM. Moon semi-square Venus 10:46 PM
Wednesday, December 25: Chances are the kids and animals will get up early. Morning is funny and irrepressible, the energy starts early as the Moon conjuncts Mercury in Sagittarius, then calms down by mid-afternoon as the Moon enters Capricorn and trines Uranus. Tonight, enjoy bittersweet moments, the ending of an era and the beginning of a new one, the feeling that this is a special moment in time and the times are changing under the new moon- solar eclipse (only visible in Asia) in Capricorn at 10:13 PM MST. We may need to spend some time with our memories.
Moon conjunct Mercury 4:18 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 2:45 PM, Moon trine Uranus 7:45 PM. New Moon in Capricorn at 10:13 PM, solar eclipse.
Thursday, December 26: It’s a great day to assemble bikes and train tracks, to collaborate on some pragmatic project mixed with love. Move slowly this morning, savor leftovers, sit with memories, get back in the body. Perform an act of generosity as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Capricorn. We may need to juggle conflicting feelings, to feel both pulled to get back to work, and to drift and dream. Make the work of building of good memories and good connections the most important job.
Moon conjunct Jupiter 12:29 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 8:23 PM.
All times are MST.
