Welcome to this guide to enhanced relaxation and wellbeing, based around the system of chakras that originate from India. This is a philosophy that shows us how to live in an inspired and harmonious way by gaining and in-depth understanding of the energy framework of the body.
The chakra system is part of the tradition of yoga, which began in India several thousand years ago. Indian sages regarded the chakras as the means whereby universal energy, the force that creates all things, is stepped down in frequency so that the human body can use it. One of the fundamental ancient universal laws is that energy precedes form – in modern times aspects of quantum physics express this same idea. So as well as having a physical body that we can see and touch, we also have an invisible “energy body” that permeates our solid structure. The chakras are our energy blueprint, needed in the invisible realm to create, heal and balance the human body in the physical realm.
There are seven major chakras in the human body, and this book will enable you to discover what and where they are and how working, balancing and supporting them can enhance your life. Making this journey will unlock the positive effects of chakra energy in your body. Once you open up to this, your perception of life will develop in new and enriching ways.

Your chakra energies can be influenced in many ways, for example through simple exercises, visualizations, the use of essential oils or crystals, or the postures of yoga – all of which you will find later in this book. Once you learn to locate your chakras, understand a little about their relationships to your physical body, and experience their benefits to your energy body, you will begin to understand yourself better, creating a heightened state of awareness. This allows you to observe what happens to you in life without being immediately sucked in and emotionally drained by your experiences. Working with the chakra system helps us to identify why we are feeling a certain way, and teaches us to pause, feel changes in our bodies, and react differently to whatever confronts us.
If you pay attention to and support your chakras, you will help to optimize the energy flow around your body. In turn, the cleansing, unblocking and rebalancing of your chakra energies, usually in a progression from the root to the crown, works as part of a holistic approach to well-being that positively affects all aspects of the mind, body and spirit. Each chakra operates on a different frequency, but they are all linked.
